Liz Lee

Liz Lee began painting late in life leaving behind a career as an English teacher. She started out by taking workshops, reading lots of art books, studying the works of famous artists and delighting in finding colleagues and collaborators in this wonderful pursuit. She discovered early on that "How to" books did not teach her "how to" paint. Painting became a joy and a mission and dedication to effort and struggle while every day blessing the day she decided to put wet brush to canvas.  Over the years, she has been in shows and galleries, met many patient and energetic people who have been her mentors, teachers and models and learned that even the smallest fruit or flower has something to say.

My preferred subjects are portraits and still lifes. I paint in oils, always from life, hoping to capture the special essence of my subject.  I am always grateful for the people who aid me and pose patiently.
