Jane attended the Traphagen School of Design in New York City with a focus on interior design. Creating watercolor room renderings allowed her to visualize and express the relationships between shapes and colors which became the foundation of her watercolor work. Since moving to Raleigh in 2015, she has studied with a number of teachers in the Triangle, including Kate Lagaly, Ryan Fox, and Suzanne Hetzel. She is a member of the North Carolina Watercolor Society and has participated in a number of WSNC exhibits. She continues to take classes and enjoys exploring various watercolor techniques.
StatementI create most of my work in my studio often making use of reference photos for inspiration and then determining how I can reinterpret the color palette to produce alternate effects. For me, the subject matter is less important than the use of color. I lean toward warm, vibrant colors which express the joy I find in painting. I am most influenced by the Fauvist and Impressionist painters of the early 20th century for their bold use of vibrant and non-naturalistic colors.
