.A veteran Gaston County Spanish teacher, Laura officially joined the Charlotte art scene in 2021 as a resident artist at the Immersive Van Gogh experience in Camp North End. Since that time, she has actively participated in the Guild of Charlotte Artists and Gaston County Art Guild and also helped kick off the artist-in-residence program at Confluence in Cramerton, just down the road from her school.
My art is about creating space for otherwise adrift feelings and materials. I use acrylic paint and collage to give shape and voice to uncertainty during times of grief or awakening, whether during inspiring travel experiences or a loved one’s battles against disease. Portraits, florals, and landscapes make those feelings visible, recognizable, and relatable. Papers collected from every avenue bring together moments and intentions that otherwise could not find their place, carving out a place where they can belong.
